COOLING PUMPS

When we talk about cooling circuits, the importance of utilizing high-performance, reliable pumps cannot be overstated. This critical choice helps prevent potential damage to components requiring cooling, as well as issues related to fluid leakage during operations.

Furthermore, it's imperative that cooling pumps endure continuous operational cycles with minimal maintenance interruptions. The repercussions of a pump failure are not just mechanical but also carry substantial financial and reputational costs. In this context, cooling pumps serve as the linchpin of the machinery, silently driving the entire system's optimal performance—a role that is frequently undervalued.

Hydraulic cooling pumps become essential when forced-air solutions, like fans, fall short of dissipating the requisite heat. Consequently, their applications are diverse, as are the types of fluids they handle, the pressures they operate under, and, thus, the specific pump designs that are most effective. Recognizing these intricacies, Techma GPM offers an array of cooling pumps. In close collaboration with manufacturers, we strive to not only meet but anticipate our customers' needs, providing customized pump models for increasingly complex applications.

CHARACTERISTICS OF COOLING PUMPS

Application: Cooling systems

Description: Management and dissipation of heat generated by electrical or mechanical components

How it works: A pump is used to circulate a liquid, which can be of various types, in a circuit that includes the component to be cooled and a heat exchanger. The liquid flows through channels/microchannels in contact with the part to be cooled removes the heat, which is then dissipated in a heat exchanger. The liquid either returns directly to the pump or, more often, ends up in the main tank.

Micropump –  GA, GB, GC

Micropump pompe per raffreddamenti - Serie PD
  • Excellent efficiency
  • Compact size
  • Speed control and variation with 0-5V analogue signal or by inverter
  • Very long expected life
  • Flow range: 15 ml/min - 10 l/min
  • Differential pressure: 0.5 - 8.6 bar

The GA, GB, and GC series magnetic drive gear pumps provide precise and pulsation-free flow, ideal for cooling and micro-cooling applications. The body is constructed of SS316, while the gears are made of plastic material. The magnetic drive technology ensures not only a total absence of liquid leaks but also a very long expected life. Thanks to the "suction shoe" design by Micropump, these pumps automatically compensate for wear, reducing leakage and ensuring a longer pump life. The same applies to temperature changes since, with the "suction shoe" technology, the coefficient of expansion of the gears and the "shell" containing them is the same, unlike other external gear pumps where the gears are made of plastic and the part in contact with them is made of steel. This leads to stability in liquid delivery under varying conditions that may occur in cooling circuits. Furthermore, thanks to the powerful and compact brushless DC motor, the GA and GB series pumps are the optimal solution for OEM applications: capable of cooling micro elements thanks to the combination of low flow rates and high differential pressures. The GC series pumps, coupled with 230/400V AC three-phase motors, are excellent for industrial cooling applications thanks to their ability to handle high differential pressures and system pressures up to 103 bar!

  • Very long expected lifespan
  • Extremely simple installation and implementation
  • Flow range: 150 ml/min - 20 l/min
  • Differential pressure: 0,5 – 8,6 bar

The magnetically driven gear pumps of the GJ and GL series provide precise and pulsation-free flow ideal for cooling applications. The magnetic drive technology ensures not only a total absence of liquid leakage. The body is made of SS316, while the gears are made of plastic material. Thanks to the powerful and compact brushless DC motor, the GJ series pumps prove to be the optimal solution for OEM applications, while the GL series pumps, coupled with 230/400V AC three-phase motors, are excellent for industrial cooling applications due to their ability to handle high differential pressures.

Aquatec – 5800

Aquatec raffreddamenti
  • Excellent efficiency
  • Self-priming
  • Possibility to work dry
  • Extremely simple installation and implementation
  • Flow rate range: 2.5 l/min - 7.5 l/min
  • 0.5 - 15 bar

Electric diaphragm pumps with three chambers have proven to be the best solution in terms of price/performance ratio thanks to their ability to work at extremely high differential pressures but with relatively low flow rates. These characteristics make them particularly suitable for use when differential pressure exceeds 4 bar, as they have few competitors in this operating range. They are constructed very simply by coupling a brushed motor with a rotating diaphragm on which there are three chambers. These open and close one after the other, ensuring a constant flow that is free of the pulsations characteristic of traditional diaphragm pumps. Another very interesting aspect is that they are self-priming and, in addition, can operate without liquid without being damaged. In very simple cooling circuits, dry operation is the leading cause of pump malfunction.

FOCUS ON COOLING APPLICATIONS:

There are several types of liquid cooling circuits depending on the amount of heat to be dissipated and the type of element to be cooled. Techma GPM offers cooling pumps for every need.

The Sanso PDH and PD series pumps and the Aquatec 5800 series pumps are mainly used to recirculate water or water and glycol at pressures that do not exceed 4 bar. Examples include the cooling of laser sources in the aesthetic/medical field where, at relatively low flows, a required differential pressure that can exceed 3 bar due to the microchannels present in the hydraulic circuit that improve heat exchange is also present. In these applications, pumps that are small in size, extremely quiet, and, in some cases, able to operate dry are also sought after since the user may forget to refill the circuit with liquid, which could result in the breakage of many types of pumps.

Another type of laser for which cooling pumps are required are the lasers used for precise welding in jewellery: in this case, the same characteristics as above are required, with the addition that the pump must not produce vibrations that would be extremely annoying for the operator since the high-precision operations he performs would inevitably be disturbed.

Of extreme importance and constantly growing is the demand for cooling pumps for data centres: due to the continuous increase in power of these computer devices, the amount of heat to be dissipated is always higher. In this case, extreme reliability is required, combined with the need to operate seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Even fast charging columns for electric vehicles require a high-performance cooling system, and in this case, Micropump gear pumps with brushless motors are excellent for pumping the diathermic oils used, managing temperature spikes, and for the extreme efficiency they are able to guarantee.

Flows ranging between 10 and 20 l/min are involved in the flushing of mechanical seals on large process pumps. Again, Micropump GC series pumps guarantee extreme reliability, thanks in particular to their ability to withstand very high system pressures (up to 103 bar) despite their small size. This feature is required because, in case of a broken mechanical seal being flushed, the pressure would be conveyed to the circuit where the flushing pump operates, which would then be forced to withstand system pressures that are much higher than normal. Obviously, these pumps are mostly provided in Atex configuration for use in potentially hazardous environments such as petrochemical plants.

These are just a few examples of all the applications where the pumps distributed in Italy and Europe by TECHMA GPM can be used in the field of cooling.

If you need a pump to insert into your cooling circuit, we will surely be able to support you in the technical selection and finding the most suitable solution for your needs.
